This year has been a whole lot of unexpectedness and while most of the time our hearts weighed heavy, I hope we can only go up together from here. While my finances sure took a hit, like many others - I'm thankful for the opportunity to spend more time to reflect and grow as a person. I've come to realize that it's the small things I often overlooked that I've found the most comfort and sanity in this year. Doing simple day to day tasks with intention, checking in with myself, asking more questions, expanding my knowledge, and starting my own business are all things I've wanted to start doing but often pushed them to the side.
The past few years I focused so much on my career in the fashion industry and supporting myself that I often pushed aside my mental and physical health. After making my physical and mental health a priority this year, my purpose became clearer than ever and my passion accelerated. 2020 gave me the courage to believe in myself and go after my own dreams, and to wake up every day fighting for them to become my reality. I will never be able to express the amount of gratitude I feel towards all the support and empowering words I received from so many others this year.
I have been planning a lot of ideas that I want to bring to life and share with you all in 2021, which I will a bit later. For today's post I wanted to encourage you all to put yourself as a priority this new year. To get those things done that you've been pushing aside. To prioritize not only the things you want but the things you need to set yourself up for a successful 2021. Let go of the things and/or people that are holding you back and hold onto the things that encourage and inspire you.
I created a list of things that I want to let go of and what I want to hold onto as well as what I want to keep doing in 2021 to keep furthering myself towards my goals and maintain the happiness I created in my life this year.
What I will keep doing:
- Journaling weekly with journal prompts
- Waking up early/going to bed earlier
- Learning Spanish
What I will let go of:
- Too much unnecessary screen time
- Coming up with excuses instead of just getting it done
- Doubting myself
- Letting others have too much control over my emotions
What I want to start doing:
- Dedicating time everyday for my business
- Cook more vegan meals at home - outside of my comfort zone
- Embrace change
- Spend more time outdoors with Levi
- Save more $
I encourage you to create a list of your own! Hold yourself accountable by giving yourself a deadline or a time goal (ex: exercising 30 min a day, 5 days a week - take it a step further by listing options to choose from - running, yoga, HIIT etc). Take the time to understand why you want to accomplish these goals - not just because you feel like you have to. Write down words that will describe how you'll feel when you accomplish those goals as a motivator (proud, empowered, strong, successful, safe). Keep it in your phone or somewhere close where you can frequently check back in and make changes.
I hope that in 2021 we can all come together to make changes for the better and for future generations to come. Where people's lives and wellbeing are put first, where selfishness is pushed aside and hands are willing to be lent. Where climate change is taken seriously with a sense of urgency. Where the things that truly matter are emphasized. Where everyone feels like they belong and is welcome to live their life the way they want to.
